TURP – Prostate Surgery
Endoscopic treatment for enlarged prostate, BPH.
Transurethral Resection of the Prostate, or TURP, is an endoscopic procedure used to treat urinary obstruction caused by an enlarged prostate. Surgical instruments are passed through the urinary passage, avoiding an external surgical incision. Excess prostate tissue obstructing urine flow is removed to improve symptoms such as a weak stream, straining, incomplete bladder emptying and repeated urinary retention. TURP may be recommended when symptoms are severe, complications develop or medicines no longer provide adequate relief.
