Endoscopic Banding

Endoscopic variceal band ligation is used to treat enlarged veins, known as varices, in the food pipe. These veins commonly develop due to portal hypertension associated with chronic liver disease and can cause serious bleeding. During endoscopy, small elastic bands are placed around the enlarged veins to block their blood supply and reduce the risk of bleeding. More than one session may be required, along with continued treatment and monitoring of the underlying liver condition.
