Cystoscopy
Endoscopic examination of the bladder and urethra.
Cystoscopy is a procedure used to examine the urethra and urinary bladder with a thin camera passed through the urinary opening. It may be advised for blood in the urine, recurrent urinary infections, difficulty passing urine, suspected bladder stones, urethral narrowing or abnormal imaging findings. Cystoscopy may also be used to obtain a biopsy, remove small stones, assess the prostate or perform selected therapeutic procedures. It can be carried out under local, regional or general anaesthesia depending on the indication.
