Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy allows the doctor to examine the rectum and large intestine using a thin, flexible camera. It may be advised for bleeding in stools, persistent changes in bowel habits, unexplained anaemia, chronic abdominal symptoms, suspected inflammatory bowel disease or colorectal cancer screening. During the procedure, biopsies can be obtained and polyps can often be removed. Appropriate bowel preparation is required beforehand to allow a clear and complete examination.
